Top 10 Smart Cleaning Hacks

Updated: Oct 29, 2021

As a busy family man and business owner, it is important for me to maintain a clean and relaxing living environment for our family, whilst making sure we still have plenty of quality time together! The key to this is a sustainable cleaning routine and using all of the smart cleaning hacks I have picked up over the years to make cleaning quick and easy. You may have seen me share some of my favourite hacks on Filthy House SOS, but just incase you missed them, I have rounded up my Top 10 Cleaning Hacks to help you clean smarter, not harder.

1. Using Hairspray to Remove Ink Stains

One of my top hacks, especially if you have kids around! The alcohol in hairspray breaks down ink, making it perfect for cleaning ink stains completely!

2. Use Shaving Foam To Prevent Steaming

As you may imagine, this hack has been especially popular over the last 18 months! Applying shaving foam to surfaces such as your glasses and bathroom mirrors prevents them steaming up (handy if you're struggling wearing glasses with a mask).

3. Use Elbow Grease on Clothing Stains

Greasy clothing stains can be notoriously hard to remove, which is why I love elbow grease! Apply it to the stain and leave it to work its magic before throwing in the washing machine as normal. Your clothes will be good as new!

4. Use WD40 to Clean Cooker Hoods

I get so many messages asking for advice on how to clean cooker hoods. They quickly accumulate lots of grease and dirt! A smart hack is to use WD40- simply spray all over the hood (making sure your hob is covered as it is extremely flammable) and wipe away the grease.

5. Oven Tongs with Micro-fibre Cloths

For the quickest way to clean your blinds, simply wrap micro-fibre cloths around a pair of oven-tongs and wipe!

6. Pink Stuff for Tile Grout

For perfect grout in no time at all, all you need is Pink Stuff and a toothbrush!

7. Sea Salt and Greaseproof Paper

If you have ever wondered how to make an old iron look brand new, look no further. This simple cleaning hack using everyday household items- salt and sugar- will have it gleaming again in no time.

8. Steradent to Clean Jewellery

Metal jewellery can quickly become tarnished and dull. If your special items are looking past their best, Steradent can come to your rescue. It is also fantastic for bringing up cloudy glasses and mucky vases like new. A super smart cleaning hack with no cleaning necessary- simply add water and let it fizz!

9. Lemons for Limescale

Limescale can be extremely time-consuming to remove, especially if you are trying to scrub away the hard minerals. For a super quick and easy cleaning hack simply wedge half a lemon over the limescale and leave it for a couple of hours.

10. Baking Soda to Deodorize

A super easy way to remove unwanted smells and freshen up upholstery! Add bicarbonate of soda and water into a spray bottle and apply to fabric. If you want to remove stains, give it a scrub too.

I hope you enjoyed my top smart cleaning hacks and they help you clean smarter not harder! Don't forget to keep an eye out on my blog and social media for more hacks and cleaning tips.
